Male American goldfinches in the summer are mostly all yellow but they have a black cap on the top of their head and they also have some black on their back the underpart of their wings are black and white and the top part of their wings are black with a little bit of white the female American goldfinch has a mostly yellow head and a white and tan chest and tan and black and white back the underpart of the wings are mostly gray and the top part of their wings are mostly black and gray. American goldfinches eat nyjer seeds and sunflower seeds and will sit on sunflowers and eat their seeds they also visit trees like red cedar. They live in fields, plains, parks and backyards they thrive throughout most of North America and southern Canada.
